Families with Children From China, Northern California
Fundraising!

One day, I let my 3 1/2 year old daughter, Ilana, adopted from
Guiping, China,
go out in downtown Mill Valley, California, wearing her pink
princess outfit
over her lime green sweat suit, and her red hair band that has
hearts coming
off of springs from her head and of course, her high heals,
which she promptly
took off and walked around bare footed in the winter. She also
ended up
collecting newspapers in her stroller, and looked like a bag
lady (which we
don't have in Mill Valley). I thought she looked so cute, I
took a picture,
sent it to my family, and my mom was appalled that I let Ilana
go out in
public looking that way. Now my mom lives here (probably to
control what
Ilana wears) and struggles each day to put matching berets on my
daughter.
To make a long story longer, to give Ilana the freedom to dress
the way she
wants, but give me and my mom a disclaimer, I decided to create
a button that
says "I dressed myself today, My mommy had nothing to do with
it." The button
was such a big hit (we gave so many away) that I ordered 1000
and decided to
sell them for $5.00 each and donate all the profits to FCC and
to Half the
Sky.
If you want a button or five (for a good cause--they make great
gifts), please
send me an e-mail at SLHolland @ aol. com [remove spaces!!] to
get payment and mailing instructions.
Come on, make a donation and give your child the freedom to
chose whatever she
wants to wear without taking any responsibility for the color
combinations or
pink princess crown!
